Nicholas Mernagh Architects was formed in 1997 by Wexford born Architect, and Rosslare native Nicky Mernagh, culminating from experience working in leading Irish architectural practices including, Arthur Gibney and Partners Architects, Dublin and Anthony Reddy & Associates Dublin and Kilkenny.
Invaluable experience was gained in the application of an Holistic approach, utilising concepts of Simple Architectural Forms, and Design, combined with a commitment to Professional Practice.

Nicky completed his Professional Membership of both The RICS and SCSI in 2002, as a Chartered and Registered Building Surveyor, while subsequently attaining Professional Membership of the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland MRIAI in 2010, achieving the title of Registered Architect under the Building Control Act of 2007.
Justin Whitty, also hailing locally from Wexford Town, joined Nicholas Mernagh Architects in 2007. Putting in 16 years with the practice, he has gained extensive experience in all aspects of Planning and Design, specializing in Sustainable / Energy Efficient design, Integration of Renewable Energy with Simple Solar Architecture, and Project Management .
Justin successfully completed his Professional Membership of both The RICS, and the SCSI in 2018 as a Chartered and Registered Building Surveyor
Since 2023, Nicky and Justin have collaborated under the Practice banner of MWA Architects, aiming to provide their clients with a thorough Professional service throughout all aspects of their Building Project. This collaboration has been instrumental in the completion of a number of high quality residential projects to an A rated certification, new builds and extensions, in Rosslare and throughout Wexford, particularly of note, Educational buildings, including a Specialist ASD unit at Kilrane National School, and a Specialist Science wing at the Presentation Secondary School Wexford town.
MWA Architects is an RIAI Registered Architectural Practice, providing accredited Architectural Conservation and Health & Safety Project supervision.
MWA provides a full range of Architectural Services from inception to completion for residential, extend, commercial and educational projects. The creation of Sustainable Design, and Green Architecture provides a consolidated part of our comprehensive service.

Family, home and nature resonate strongly with Nicky. Away from the Practice, he invariably will be found lost in the tranquillity of his much loved self-created garden, meandering through his 5 Acre native oak wood, walking the wild mountain tracks of the Forth Mountain, or taking in the beautiful stretches of the surrounding South Wexford Beaches. All frequent pastimes he cherishes, accompanied by his 3 beloved Red Irish Terriers.
A proud Wexford Man, he is an avid lifelong Wexford Hurling Supporter.

Like Nicky, home and family play a pivotal role in Justin’s life. Outside of work,
Sport has been a significant outlet over the years, both through playing and coaching with his clubs, Sarsfields and North End United in Wexford Town.
Justin is a proud supporter of the Irish Rugby Team.

Sheenagh Byrne B.Sc. (Hons)
B.Sc. (Hons) in Architectural Technology from the Southeast Technological University, Carlow
Sheenagh is from Aughrim County Wicklow, joining MWA in 2022 directly from SETU. Sheenagh works closely with Nicky through all phases of the Design Process, and has evolved into a much valued member of the practice, gaining extensive experience in the production of high quality presentation, Design and Planning Drawings utilising the application of 3D visualization.

Johanna Cousins B.Sc. (Hons)
B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Architectural Technology from the Southeast Technological University, Carlow
Johanna is a Kilmore native, an experienced Technologist who joined MWA in 2022.
Working closely with Justin and the practice Design Team, her responsibility lies in the production of high quality detail drawings and specifications, in conjunction with Fire Safety and DAC certs.
